Cruisin was staged in Sydney in January 2003. This was the first full-scale production of the show and agents and industry professionals were invited to attend the Castle Hill Entertainment Centre. The show was directed by Jane Miskovic, Musical Director of the live 8 piece band, Rod Christian, Choreographer Edward Rooke. CRUISIN’ SPREADS ITS WINGS! This year has seen new productions of Cruisin’ being booked in India and Spain! Added to productions already performed in the U.S.A, the UK, New Zealand, Canada and right around Australia, Cruisin is making its mark as an International icon in original musicals. In 2011 Must See Musicals in Crewe UK chose Cruisin’ for their summer musical. South Sioux City High School in the USA produced the first US production of Cruisin’, while the show has once again been chosen by a number of schools and colleges throughout Australia in 2012. St Mary’s Secondary College in Cairns Queensland produced a fantastic sold-out show at the Cairns State Theatre in April this year. The reviews validated the show’s appeal to audiences young and old. St Anne High School in Canada performed the show in July to a very appreciative audience and another school has booked the show for later this year. The UK agent, David Waters booked two productions in the UK in 2010 for Barrow in Furness by the A590 Youth Theatre Company and the Highbury Theatre Company. Both were highly successful seasons.
Cruisin’ is not just another “high school juke box musical” but is a real story about an Italian family coming to terms with and growing up in a very different culture and environment.The show will resonate with young and old audiences. The music is catchy with rock, Latin and big dance numbers, which are exciting to perform with the energetic 12 piece arrangements. The story has universal appeal and can be adapted to suit many cultures.
Cruisin’ includes an all-original musical score and provides a challenge to students and actors from all walks of life.
